History was made in the EU this week when the European Parliament and EU Council agreed a groundbreaking piece of legislation that will help protect whistle-blowers around Europe.
This political agreement means that the EU will have dedicated legislation in this area for the first time.
Protecting against retaliation
The lead negotiator, French Member of the European Parliament Virginie Rozière, said on Twitter on Tuesday that negotiators had to ‘battle for the final text’ of the law to ‘live up to the expectations of citizens.’
‘Our work was to identify the states which opposed external channels and make them stand up to their responsibilities before citizens and NGOs,’ she wrote.
